Fusarium Head Blight Risk Update-May 1, 2019

— Written By Lindsey Thiessen

This is the fourth update on Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) risk in North Carolina in 2019. More information on FHB and symptoms can be found at the Small Grains Extension portal.

Current Risk

FHB risk is low for wheat flowering today throughout North Carolina due to recent dry weather. Risk is likely to remain low due to little rain in the forecast. The susceptible stage for wheat is flowering and for barley is heading. Most of the wheat in North Carolina has already flowered or is flowering now, and barley is likely past heading. Fungicides are not recommended to reduce FHB when risk is low.

To monitor FHB risk in your area, utilize the Fusarium Risk Assessment Tool.
